The Sounds She Collected is a newsletter about mixtapes and mixed emotions. Thanks for being part of this hive mind for empathetic, hopeful people.
GASP! Why is the Sunday Letter hitting my inbox on a TUESDAY, you might be asking yourself. Welcome to a new dawn of The Sounds She Collected, one that allows me to better share in this creative experience with you all!
This shift is inspired by my friend A who also had a project that would drop on Sundays. She recently shifted it into the week on Mondays, because Sundays are her day for being, not for doing.
While reading through her note, I thought to myself, When I frequently shut my phone off on Sundays, want to do absolutely nothing, and thus have trouble motivating myself to curate this letter for Sundays, why am I sending it out on Sundays?
With a simple shift, we can chart our own course. This is your sign to think about where you might be making things complicated for yourself. How can things be easeful?
I’ve also noticed, in addition to having trouble writing this for Sundays, sometimes I have trouble writing this at all. I’d be super hard on myself for not ascribing to a set schedule that I created, but now I accept that I will not always be in the creative flow. I’m a private person despite being a writer, which is a fun dichotomy. And sometimes I don’t feel like saying a whole lot or even have the inspiration to do so. But I’m committed to showing up here because of the connection I bear witness to every time I send out this letter.
There are some brand-new elements of this newsletter that I’m so excited to share with you! Thank you for being along for the ride even if this doesn’t hit your inbox each week. I’m trying my very best, and I hope this is your sign to be gentler with yourself today, too!
This week’s playlist, note to self, is filled with a bunch of songs that have been carrying me through July. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
Here’s to doing what we want! Having fun! Making our own rules! Going easy on ourselves! Resting on Sundays!
Take good care,
Sarah
