The Sounds She Collected is a newsletter about mixtapes and mixed emotions. Thanks for being part of this hive mind for empathetic, hopeful people.
As I find myself in a deluge of reflective thoughts this December, I am reminded that I have spent much of this year thinking of mortality and what it means to live fully and autonomously. We have all been forced to think of death in 2020. To think of things we never wanted to think about and to have way too much time with our own thoughts. To spin the wheels on plans we made only to go in entirely new directions.
But we have also had so much time to think about the ways in which we want our lives to be different—or what we want to stay the same. But they can be different, they will be different, because we are different. Beautiful things are ahead.
All that being said, I am learning how to rest when it is unattached to any sort of outcome and give the time and love and care I give to others back to myself, so I am taking time for some much-needed rest over the next month. You’ll hear from me in 2021 with some new content pieces and newsletter structures. Until then, please drop me a note if you hear an epic new or old song and want to share it with me, or if you simply want to say hello.
I’d also love if you’d fill out the survey below regarding this newsletter; it’ll help me scheme and plan for the year ahead. I look forward to hearing from you! And I’m so grateful to you for reading my musings on mixtapes and mixed emotions every week.
Because this year is steeped in duality, it is also my favorite time of year—the holidays. When we are typically ushered from gathering to gathering (in this case, from Zoom call to Zoom call) and fill our worlds with holiday cheer. So in the spirit of holiday giving, I want to recommend some newsletters that I’ve loved this year for your perusal:
Max’s Music Mondays by Max Himelhoch
What’s Eating Katie? by Katie Johnson
Crème de la Crème by Aminatou Sow

Last but not least, for this week’s playlists, I invite you to…
