the sounds she collected, playlist 15: "nancy meyers makes croissants"

if you know me, you know—i love nancy meyers movies. pretty much all of them: something's gotta give, it's complicated, the holiday, the parent trap, father of the bride, home again, the intern. each has such a sweet story line that gives these movies a spot in my heart beyond the typical "comfort movies you watch when you're sick" category. i can recite these movies line by line, i watch one of the movies when i'm feeling stuck, and i dream that one day, my home will have a kitchen that resembles the kitchen in literally *any* of these movies (it's complicated, preferably).

in being such a fan of her movies, i became a fan of nancy meyers herself. her ability to tell vulnerable stories that retain such a feel-good element has been something that's so inspiring to me. in each movie, there are many unifying themes: the plot twists, the pristine homes, and, of course, the music. each song on her movie soundtracks fits in seamlessly, adding to that feel-good vibe with songs that span decades. the story lines are generally pretty unrealistic, but retain an element of realism enough that unifying themes are found throughout. and who's to say that life shouldn't be magical and wonderful and crazy anyway?

so, in an homage to nancy meyers, i went to make a themed playlist last week, but found that someone had already did that (curses!). after taking a listen, it was not what i had envisioned. so here's my take—what would nancy meyers listen to while she makes chocolate croissants in her immaculate kitchen while stepping away from time to time to craft her latest movie script on what i envision to be a pastel-colored vintage typewriter? (can you tell that i basically want to be nancy meyers when i grow up?)

and let me tell you, the art of croissant-making does not look easy. it seems to take anywhere from 12-15 *HOURS* to make a dozen. this very lengthy playlist, nancy meyers makes croissants, totals at 12 hours and is meant to cover the entire croissant process. enjoy this playlist with all the nancy meyers staples as complements: candles, a glass of red wine, fettuccine alfredo served from elegant dishware, and loved ones with their phones stashed away as you all catch up (how we used to do things! crazy, right?).
or this. cozy outdoor patio with string lights recommended, but not required.

lyrics of the letter: "believe in the magic that can set you free / oh, talkin' 'bout magic / do you believe in magic?" -the lovin' spoonful, "do you believe in magic"
with gratitude and music,
